What Does Diffused Cerebral Atrophy With Dilatation Of The Ventricle Mean?

I am 70 year old, weighing 158 lbs and 5 3 .Earlier I had Angina pectoris and was undergoing medical attendance and treatment from AIIMS Delhi. Since then I am taking ecospirin 75 mg and after few years 150 mg. Three years back I became unconscious three times in different occassion and took MRI. Impression of MRI brain study reveals : Diffuse cerebral atrophy with dilatation of third ventricle, lateral ventricle, sylvian fissure out of proportion to fourth ventricle and sulci. To rule out early NPH. No MR evidence of acute infarct in present study. The Dr. advised me to take Clopitab A 150. From the last 8 months I am suffering from shoulder (right) pain for which I am takingAcetaminophen in addition to Amlodipine 10 mg, Glyburide 2.5 etc. Will you please advice your suggestion. Thanks Yohannan John

Hi,

Whoever is 70 years of age and would NOT tell me that his head MRI showed a cerebral atrophy, I would say that person saw at the wrong doctor. Our brains shrink as we age. That’s perfectly normal. I’m 19 years younger than you, but rest assured: if I would get a brain MRI now, my pictures would also already show the first signs of cerebral atrophy. To me it seems that you are medically in good hands.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Marius Lazar, Dermatologist
