What Does Dark Bowel Movement While On Clindamycin HCL Indicate?

I recently had teeth pulled and was given Clindamycin HCL to be taken every six hours for seven days. I have a rash, and my last bowel movement was very dark and had a spot of bright red blood. I have a cough which I had at the time the teeth were pulled. I am concerned about the rash, I am allergic to penicillin.

Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dark bowel movements can be related to an hemorrhage in the upper gastrointestinal tract. If the symptoms continue I suggest to stop the medication and do an endoscopy for further evaluation and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
