What Does Chest Pain While Suffering From A Stomach Infection Indicate?

I think I have a stomach virus. I ve had diarrhea for about two hours off and on, severe cramping pain in lower abdominal area. My chest is aching, a dull ache on my right breast area and down the sternum. I ve had 2 open heart surgeries (last one was in 1986). I m thinking maybe it is just arthritis in the chest area. Or maybe it is a symptom of the virus.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Gastritis like stomach infection can lead referred pain in lower part of chest area. So, if after resolving diarrhea, lower chest pain continued than EKG can be done for further work up.

Maintain hydration with lots of water. Avoid excess spicy foods. Cooked oatmeal helps in soothing stomach. If still no improvement, then stool routine micro examination and occult blood test can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
