What Does Change In Mole Texture Indicate?

I had a really small mole next to my belly button. Now that I compare it to what it looked like 9 months ago, I noticed that it now has a texture. It is still relatively small ( 3- 4 millimeters). I took an apointment with a dermatologist but it s only in a month from now. Could it be a melanoma and if it is, is one month too long to wait to treat it?

Hello,

The following are characteristics of a mole turning into melanoma:
1) Asymmetry: one half unlike the other half
2) Border: irregular, scalloped or poorly defined border
3) Color: varies from one area to another
4) Diameter: usually melanomas are more than 6 mm in diameter
5) Evolving: A mole that changes in size, shape and color

Therefore, you can see for yourself if your mole fits the above criteria. 1 month is not too much time and melanoma won't progress in a period of a month. So relax and have your appointment with dermatologist as scheduled.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
