What Does Blood In Urine After Passing An Kidney Stone Indicate?

My husband passed a little piece of gravel as he has always suffered from stones in the kidney but has not had any attacks for sometime. His urologist xrayed him a couple of months ago, he has small pieces of gravel showing in the xray. Since he passed this piece of gravel has has been passing urine very frequently and now has blood in his urine.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This occur commonly after passing a stone, for two reasons, the stone can slightly damage our lining of the tract causing bleeding, or it can also cause infection which may cause bleeding. So he need to check urine for any infection. Till then I would encourage he should take a lot of fluid, hopefully this would be OK in no time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
