What Does Blood In Stools Post An Accident Suggest?

Hi. I was in a car accident and had blood in my stool. Another doctor said it was likely a transient episode. Not sure what that means exactly. The er doctor said it was probably diverticulitis which I never had. Never bled again our before. Chest wall pain. What is your opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Transient implies it is likely a short term problem that may not recur.

Diverticular disease is present in a large number of the population so it would not be unusual for a person to have this issue.

It is possible that there was mild trauma to the abdomen particularly the bowel causing the bleeding episode.
If you are above the age of screening for colon cancer and had a colonoscopy within the recommended time, then it is not likely related to any serious disease of the bowel.

The chest pain should not cause the blood in the stool.

I hope this helps
