Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have noticed an indentation above my knee about the size of a golf ball, there is no pain and it began about 5 days ago. there is no apparent bruising or muscle tenderness. After rubbing it there seems to be a slight discoloration. Should I be concerned with muscle atrophy.
Painless indentation above knee might be or might not be related to muscle atrophy as in muscle atrophy there are limitations to the movement of joints around the involved muscle can be seen. In your case you have not mentioned any pain or difficulty in movements or any history of accidental injury that led to this. Yet the chances of muscle wasting cannot be denied.
So, I would suggest you see your doctor and get it checked. After physical examination he might ask you to get some diagnostic tests done if required. As far as there is no pain or difficulty in movements there is no need for pain-relieving medicines. So, for now, the best thing to do is, see your doctor and follow his advice on this.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
