What Does An Enlarged Stomach Indicate?

Hi. I recently had pneumonia and had an xray and then 4 weeks later i had a ct scan because i was still coughing. In both scans the pulmonologist told me that my stomach was enlarged and that i should follow up with a Gastro. I can t get an appointment for 5 more weeks. How concerned should i be and should i try to find another dr so i can get seen sooner?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here are my thoughts.

You have been suffering from pneumonia, had X-rays and CT scan which showed enlargement of stomach; you have not mentioned about the condition of lungs and pleura.
The commonest cause of enlargement of stomach I can think about are as follows:
Dilated stomach.
Ascites.
Please post the reports.
You need clinical evaluation by your Family Physician to start with so that a primary diagnosis can be made, relevant investigations like that for blood sugar, thyroid, liver and kidney function can be done.
Primary treatment can be helpful in relief and management of all the problems altogether.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
