What Does Abdominal Pain On The Right Side Indicate?

Hi! My son s friend, male, age 26, has been having abdominal pains on the right side around his liver area since the week after Thanksgiving, & is still having the pain. Now he has been getting unexplained bruises on his thighs & other areas. I don t have much detail as they live out of state from us. I am concerned, wondering if he might be having liver problems. He is very overweight & his eating habits are not good, alot of sodas, junk foods, works late nights. I told my son to tell him he needs to see a doctor. Any idea what might be causing these symptoms? Sorry i have no more specifics.
