We care for our two 3 and 5 year old grandchildren. Both have a had colds and runny noses for a week. Yesterday I began to have the chills, achy muscles, a slight headache and some minor pain in my groin. I took two advil in am and two in pm and rested and felt a little better. No cough, no runny nose.Today is a better day but I suddenly developed a rash on my ankle. I m a 69 year old male in good health. Thanks for your advice

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a viral infection.
The rash can be related to herpes zoster virus.
Some advice that I can give to you about the treatment are :
-do not scratch the skin where the rash is located
-After diagnosis and appropriate treatment, apply cool tap-water compresses
-Keep the area clean with mild soap and water.
-use antiviral creams for local relief

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
