Trying to figure out what this rash is that I have and have had on and off for over 15 years.Been to two dermatologist n they never say anything like this. I have no health problems except for this rash coming and staying for few weeks then goes away. This bout has been with me since September Right now it s in my hair back of neck
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A very likely cause of the rash at the hairline area at the back of the neck is psoriasis. This causes itchy scaly rash that might create candle like scales and may come and go. These patients might have also some lesions in other areas of the skin but not always. The treatment is done with steroid ointment and ointments with salicylic acid to use locally when the lesions appear. There are also shampoos available in pharmacies that can be used to help with the rash.
Unfortunately this is a chronic condition and it might recur and treatment of each episode is needed to reduce the time it lasts.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
