Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I may have a cyst in the top of my foot - had ultrasound and x-ray today. I just want to be prepared if this is the case. It is painful to stand and does swell if I stand for long periods. Are there options other than surgery? I have had cysts removed from other areas lower back, fingers and do have them in my palm. YYYY@YYYY

What Does A Painful Cyst On The Foot Indicate?
Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic! There are different types of cysts. Some cysts are painful as they compress some nerve beneath them. Common cysts on foot are ganglion cyst, synovial cyst or fibroma. Surgical treatment will be opted based on type, location and extent of cyst. If ultrasound and X ray reports reveal a harmless or benign cyst. You can go for conservative treatment as follows: 1) You can apply ice-pack if pain is related to activity. 2) Pain medications (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) can be used. 3) Better to have more rest. If it is harmful or malignant or very painful, surgery is the only option. Take care Regards, Dr. VAMSI KRISHNA CHITTIMOJU, Pathologist and Microbiologist
