What Does A Lump On The Upper Arm After An Injury Indicate?

10 days ago I slipped in tub as I was standing up to get out. Small cut on eyebrow, slight black eye, went to medical at work to ensure not a concussion. Next day realized I had hit my upper arm during the fall and it was very uncomfortable, then hot, brushed very colorful, could not lift brief case with that arm, etc. Now it is still be used but healing, about the size of my open hand. There is a fairly large knot or lump in it, should I be concerned or just live with it?

The symptoms you suggest may indicate an infection, injury, or a soft tissue injury. Some people may develop lumps with infection. This is seen when one has lymph node swelling.

Infection and lymph node swelling are often treated with antibiotics. This can help to treat and reduce the size of the lumps. In case the lumps persist, seeing a skin specialist or icing the area for 15 mins can be useful.

In case the icing or the antibiotics do not help, the doctor may biopsy the area to get to the cause.
