What Does A Lump On Jawline After Tooth Extraction Indicate?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed the day after thanks giving, my lower right one was impacted. After surgery I noticed a hard lump on my right jawline, It is still there. It's not painful but if i try to open my mouth all the way it is a little bit. What is this and how do I get rid of it? Thanks

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

A hard lump after removal of wisdom tooth can be as a result of inflammation that occurs after every traumatic procedure..

It may resolve slowly as you continue to take the prescribed medicines by your dentist..

One other reason for the swelling can be that there is underlying infection in the extraction socket or any left out pieces of tooth or its roots or it may be due to any foreign body which got stuffed into the socket acting as a continuous source of infection leading to formation of hard lump.

I would suggest you to consult your dentist and get evaluated for the cause of lump formation.

If it is due to inflammation it will slowly subside as the healing progresess.

In case of infection removal of the cause of infection followed by antibiotics, painkillers and irrigation with hydrogen peroxide, betadine and saline can provide relief.

Do warm saline gargles.

Try to open the mouth under limits of tolerance to avoid reduced opening of mouth.

Hope you get well soon..

Thanks and regards..
