Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My boyfriend and I had been dating for six months and he decided to trim his pubic hair. Upon doing so, he discovered a growth on the shaft of his penis near the base. He was diagnosed with genital warts. Now I have been diagnosed with the same thing. I was treated at the time of my diagnosis and advised to abstain from sex for a couple of weeks. It s clear and everything is fine. Now I m curious, if one of us were to experience another outbreak, does it matter if we have unprotected sex since we both have the same strain?
Hello and welcome to HCM, You should refrain from sexual activity till infection is clear in both of you. This is because if any of you still have the infection, the infection can transmit from one person to other. Till the time you both are treated, you should practise safe sex by using barrier method of contraception. Failing to do so can lead to transmission of infection.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
