What Does A Dark Spot On Toe Indicate?

I have a dark spot on my right big toe. Almost black. I think I see a shadow to the left of it. It is close to my cuticle in right quadrant. I can t figure out if it s a fungus or bruise. It doesn t really hurt. I first noticed 3 days ago. It s about 1/5 or 1/6 the size of my toenail. Is this fungus or bruise? No change since I started applying fungi nail the day I noticed.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Black spot on the toe nail is most probably due to bruising.
Is there any history of trauma to the toe nail?
Trauma can lead to injury to soft tissues and thus bleeding.
Fungal infection will not cause black discolouration on the toe nail.
Fungal infection usually leads to white or yellow discolouration of the toe nail.
Bruises of toe nails take long time to clear but it is usually it is asymptomatic and causes no pain.
You can consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment of the black spot to rule out any other lesion.

Thanks and take care
