What Does A Bump On The Gums Indicate?

My 5 year old had broken his front tooth in half. The dentist put a silver cap on it instead of removing the tooth. That was a year ago. Lately, it was starting to get loose, today the gums are dark around it and it looks like a fleshy bump on in the gums

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

There is a possibility that there is secondary Infection in the tooth and due to Infection there is bump on the gums due to abscess formation..
Another reason for loosening of tooth is that as it is a milk tooth, it is about to fall..
So for confirmation you should consult a Dentist and get evaluated and an x ray of the tooth should be done as it will give a clear picture of the reason for loosening of tooth and bump on the gum..
If the tooth in infected then Pulpectomy has to be done..
But if there is root resorption that is preparing for the tooth to fall then you can leave it as it is to let it fall naturally..

Hope this helps..

Regards .
