What Does A Bump On Head With Persistent Pain Suggest?

My son has been rubbing his head for about 4 days, Yesterday I shaved his hair off, and I noticed One squishy quarter size bump on the right side of the back of his head torwards the base. and 3 sports one quarter size 2 nickel size stacked on the left side, squishy, back of head torwards the base. I did not mention them to him and now today he is complaining of pain and when you touch them, he says ouch they hurt. I am freaking out because the closets childrens hospital is over an 1hour and half away and do the current flooding in our area, I am not sure we would even make it there.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The history is suggestive of one of the following:
* Sebaceous cyst with infection called boils.
* Seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Since there is a problem in reaching the Children's hospital due to flood I would advise you the following:
* Try calling the hospital, use facility to send photos to the concerned Doctor to get an idea what is this.
* Your son will be given an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory as per the photos, age and weight.
* Apply liquid Povidone Iodine locally.
* Do not pop or fondle as this increases the spread of infection and inflammation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
