What Does A Bulge On Side Of Torso With Lack Of Appetite And Weight Loss Suggest?

my husband has had off and on pain in his side and back, he has a large bulge on the right side of his torso, his skin is painful to touch. He has no appetite and has lost 35 lbs in the last 6 weeks. The dermatologist said he has dry skin and thats why its itchy and hurts. I m looking at his skin and it is not dry. He went to the gastroenterologist today, they don t seem to be concerned about the bulge, and suggested it could be a fatty deposit. A fatty deposit doesn t just appear. Doctors don t seem to be concerned but i am very concerned, this is not normal.

Hi,

Based on the symptoms you have described, your husband must seek further medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause of his symptoms. A bulge on the side of the torso, along with pain, lack of appetite, and significant weight loss can be indicative of a serious medical condition such as cancer, infection, or a hernia.

While a fatty deposit is a possibility, it is important to rule out other potential causes and address the underlying condition as soon as possible. Additional testing, such as imaging or a biopsy, may be necessary to determine the cause of the bulge and other symptoms.

It is important to advocate for your husband's health and seek additional medical opinions if necessary. If you are not satisfied with the current diagnosis, seek a second opinion from a healthcare provider or specialist. Early detection and treatment can be critical in improving outcomes for many medical conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
