What Does A Bruise On The Toe Indicate?

Hello, Im pretty sure I broke my big toe about 2 or so weeks ago. I still have a purple line below my toe nail, & at the 1st knuckle of the toe. I haven t gotten treatment because it hasn t kept me from working etc. It hurts still if I step wrong, wear certain shoes, or it gets bumped. Are the line bruises normal or could that be something extremely serious? When my toe bruised it was about the top 1/3 of my foot, & my big toe.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

You have injured your big toe and possibly have a fracture. The purple line denotes blood collection inside, a hematoma. The fact that it is still painful 2 weeks after the injury, and there is a hematoma, you must get the foot and toe X-ray done AP, Lateral and Oblique view. Rest to the toe is very important.

Please do consult a Podiatric surgeon or an Orthopedic surgeon who can see the X-Ray, see if there is a fracture and advise you on the management. The treatment will depend on the extent of bone injury if present. Antibiotics may be required to prevent infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
