What Does 2.5 Cylindrical Numbers From Eye Test Suggest?

My son is 5 year old. With the recent eye test doctor told us he has 2.5 cylindrical numbers. We can't believe because there was no symptoms of vision deficiency observed by us. One more thing to share is, my son born in 8th month. Is it because of his eye couldn't develop during his birth? Please advise how do we address this.

If there is a defect then it is to be corrected by specs. You can get second opinion but you have to give the child proper specs.
