Dear Madam, Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved husband.
Based on the results of his
lipid profile, his cholesterol is moderately high as well as the cholesterol ratio.
Normal of desirable
total cholesterol level is less than 200 mg/dL.
A level of 200-239 mg/dL is considered as borderline high.
If it is more than 239 mg/dl it is moderately high.
The cholesterol ratio is calculated by dividing total cholesterol by HDL (high density
lipoprotein). Ideally it should be less than 3.5. So, his cholesterol ratio is also increased.
HDL which is also called as "good fat" as it helps in decreasing total cholesterol, its level can be increased by regular exercise and avoiding smoking.
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), one should aim to keep this ratio below 5, with the ideal cholesterol ratio at 3.5.
According a high total cholesterol and a cholesterol ratio of 5 indicates average risk of
heart disease for men.
So, in view of the above your husband needs certain drugs like statin and lifestyle changes (avoiding alcohol, smoking, fatty meals, fast and junk foods) to reduce his
high cholesterol levels thus reducing the risk of heart disease.
Hope this answers your query.
