What Do The Widel Reactin Results Indicate?

Hi. My daughter's widel reactin results are Typhi-O 1:160 and Typhi-H "negative" (meaning below normal values). Is this indicative of typhoid fever, or do both values have to be higher than normal? She hasn't had any fever, just feeling lacking in energy when doing sports. She did have salmonella six months ago (and underwent treatment for it), which is why I had her take another test. Tx for any advice.

Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that having titre >= 1:160 is suggestive of active salmonella infection. But as your daughter had already infected six month ago I suspect active salmonella infection in your daughter. But many a time in widal test we find a anamnestic response or you can say false positive. I suggest you should go for typhi dot test which is more specific test than widal. Give you perfect diagnosis. If you have anything else to ask please contact me. Thanx. Dr. Arun Tank
