Hi,
Women take Progesterone by mouth for inducing menstrual periods and treating abnormal
uterine bleeding associated with hormonal imbalance as well as severe symptoms of
premenstrual syndrome (PMS). In addition to that, Progesterone is used in combination with the estrogen hormone to oppose estrogen as part of
hormone replacement therapy. It may cause breast tenderness and enlargement or swelling as a side effect.
The other side effects of Progesterone are nausea, vomiting, headache, sweating, fatigue, dry mouth,
vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding, acnes, facial hair growth, delayed wound healing, unusual bruising or bleeding, changes in body weight, dizziness, changes in sleep pattern, mood swings, depression, changes in appetite,
abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, changes in sexual drive, allergic reactions etc. If any of side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor promptly for medical attention. Again, if you think that you might become pregnant, then do a pregnancy test 7 days after the next missed period or inform your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
