Hello,
It is hard to say without seeing them, but bumps that otherwise don't have any pain would most likely be from genital
warts. These are caused by a virus called
HPV, which is usually sexually transmitted, though the partner may not have active lesions and have no symptoms at all. Also, the virus can be dormant for long periods of time, so it would be hard to say when exactly he was infected with the virus. There are many other causes,
molluscum contagiosum and
syphilis, but genital warts would be the most common.
Though they sometimes go away on their own, it is generally recommended to treat these, as they can get worse and take a long time to resolve. So I would recommend that he see his doctor to confirm the diagnosis and discuss treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
