What Do Shortness Of Breath, Chest Tightness And Swelling Of The Ankles Indicate?

My wife is 65 and has the following symptoms: shortness of breath, frequent (but not always) chest tightness, occasional swelling of ankles and feet, suddenly experiencing low level of energy. One hour naps daily and to bed by 8:00. Unusual for this high energy woman. No known health issues prior to this in the last few months. EKG and ECG, pulmonary CT scan looking for blood clots (negative), 24/7 heart monitoring, stress test all show no cardiolo issues. Never smoked, low blood pressure, low cholesterol. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swelling of the ankles is indicating poor local circulation possibly due to:
- local blood vessels issues
- liver/kidney problems

if no cardiovascular or pulmonary problem is found. Get liver/kidney function test done together with urine analysis.

Shortness of breath and chest tightness is also related to the main diagnosis that caused swelling of the ankles.
Should get physical examination and pulmonary function tests done to rule out possible allergy or lung problems other than those related to blood clots.

Discuss this further with her caring doctor.
All the best.
