What Do Rashes On The Ankles Indicate?

have been sedentary due to an ankle fracture. Swelling of feet and ankles has been extreme. Now with the use of a diuretic, swelling is down, especially after a night s sleep, but a rash is on both ankles. I do have an allergy to sulfa. What is the cause of the rash and how should it be treated? Thanks.

1. as there is a history of remaining sedentary, thus definitely you need urgent medical evaluation since it could be a blood clot [DVT- deep vein thrombosis] which has to be immediately excluded as there is swelling in the ankle, so seek immediate medical intervention [vascular surgeon opinion] or visit an ER.

PS. Venous stasis can occur due to injury, surgery or poor circulation, and it can indicate the presence of life-threatening blood clots in the deep veins, ask for doppler study [since the clot could break free and travel up to the lungs to cause fatal embolism
