I am coughing now for about eight weeks, I have a taste of iron in my mouth, my chest feels like some-ones sat on it. I am being sick after my evening meal and drink. I have has an x ray but it is clear. yet I still have this problem, a district nurse says my pupils are dilated too. I have no idea whats wrong with me. I have drunk beer everynight too. could that have something to do with it or not??

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain in case if you have a cough since 8 weeks along with iron taste in mouth and chest discomfort and if your chest x ray is clear there is a possibility that you are suffering from acid reflux in which acid from stomach refluxes back in food pipe and throat and it leads to irritation and tickling of throat and it can initiate cough..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolayngologist and get evaluated and along with a thorough clinical evaluation he can refer you to a Gastroenterologist if acid reflux is suspected..
A Gastroenterologist can advise upper G.I Endoscopy to confirm the cause..
For acid reflux you can be advised to take proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole, antacids like calcium carbonate, taking light frequent meals, avoiding spicy food and doing moderate exercise..
Drink plenty of water and take more of Yoghurt that is a Probiotic in diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
