What Do Painful Bumps Behind The Left Ear Indicate?

Hi 6 Weeks ago I had a head on collision with a rock wall going about 50mph. I was unconscious and later had a concussion. The ER took an X-ray and said I was going to be okay. I had severe pain in my neck and wasn’t able to move my neck. First my neck got much better but now just in the past week it’s been very painful again on my left side witch is the opposite side from where I hit my head. I have developed several painful bumps. Two is on the base of my skull on left side, another one behind my left ear, and a large hard lump on the side on my neck below the ear. What is happening to me? The bumps are very painful. It’s a radiating pain and they are very soar to touch. Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In most cases cause is benign and should not worry you. If this I soft and not paiful then this in most cases indicates swollen lymph node, lipoma or atheroma. And if this is hard and immobile swelling behind the ear would be a bony swelling, most commonly known as osteoma. These swellings are generally asymptomatic and requires no treatment. However if it increases in size or you develop pain then I would like you to meet a ent doctor for further evaluation and treatment. The other swelling in the neck is likely to be a lymph node and since it has not increased in size for past few years then you have nothing to worry. No treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your query.
