Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Neck Pain And Pain Behind The Eyes Indicate?
I had a lumbar puncture yesterday morning. I have experienced severe neck stiffness and neck pain down between my shoulder blades I can not move my head at times because it makes it worse. I also have pain behind my eyes and hurts to look around. Are these normal side effects?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Why did you have lumbar puncture? Did you undergo surgery or CSF examination? If CSF was examined then they are considering some infection which might lead to neck pain and stiffness.
Also, you are right that after lumbar puncture, you might develop severe headache due to CSF leak. However, neck stiffness may or may not be there.
Drink plenty of water, painkillers and consult your physician for further treatment. Lumbar puncture is not a investigation which is done without any suspicion.
If they are thinking infection like meningitisencephalitis then proper treatment will help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Akshay
