What Do Flashing Lights In The Eyes Indicate?

I recently experienced some flashing lights in one eye, so had a visit with the eye doctor who ruled out retinal detachment - said the flashes would probably go away; but didn t say how long they might last. It s been nearly five days and I still see occasional flashes when I move my eye. Should I be concerned or visit another eye doctor?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Flashes of light may be due to infection, vitreous haemorrhage or anaemia or Vitamin a deficiency or retinal detachment or glaucoma etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Get it done fundus examination, measuring intraocular pressure may useful.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Hello,

It can be a sign of retinal detachment. We have to rule out other causes like vitreous bleed.

Consult an ophthalmologist and get evaluated.
