What Could Traces Of Blood In Urine Indicate? Which Specialist To Consult?

I was trying to get the new phone app discussed on Dr.Phil show where you can talk with a doctor on your phone I am noticing blood in my urine; age 59 female; Have been told I had blood in urine years ago in routine check-up and with further tests, discovered it was really nothing; some women have this; but I am actually seeing the blood this time; not bad, would be similar to what I might see at beginning or end of cycle but I have not had period in several years so wondered if I should see kidney dr. or regular doctor

hello and welcome,

I understand the problem.

It is not routine to have blood in urine. Even microscopic quantities of blood not visible by the eye must not be there.

The common causes of blood in urine are infections, stones and tubular or glomerular disorders [ parts of kidney].

As of now, you must see a urologist, get an ultrasound [ renal scan] and a urine microscopy of the first morning urine sample as it is the most concentrated.

The further treatment will depend upon the cause detected. Do not worry. Stones are the commonest and easily treatable. Also drink plenty of water as it helps flush the system and decrease stone formation.

Hope this satisfies your query.
