What Could The Smooth Red Patch Under The Tongue Be?

Hello Dr,
I have a smooth red patch down the centre of my tongue, at times it can be a little sore but generally it does not bother me to much. Some days are better than others. Occasionally I also get tiny little red spots on the roof of my mouth, not many, maybe 4/5 at most. The spots disappear after a few days but the patch has stayed for 3-4 months now and still has not gone.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding smooth red patch under the tongue which becomes sore from time to time this is for last 3 to 4 months.

Here I would like to say that the site you have told is the site of opening of submandibular duct, thus redness on the opening of salivary duct may be due to sialoadenitis. The infection is foe last 3-4 months therefore diabetes should always be ruled out.

For confirmation and treatment point of view these investigations are must-

1- Ultrasonography of submandibular area.

2- Culture and sensitivity of saliva.

3- Gram's staining of saliva.

4- Blood- CBC, ESR, blood sugar (fasting and post parendial).

By the inferences of above investigations and clinical examination one may make thediagnosis that may be accordingly manage.

Regards.
