What Could Testicular Swelling (partial) With Discomfort In A Toddler Indicate?

My 2 year old son was walking funny. I noticed one side of his testicle is very red. It does not seem swollen and it is not radiating heat. WHen I touched it, he didn't seem to be in severe pain, but did seem uncomfortable. I gave him a warm bath and applied vaseline to the area before bed. Any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
The commonest reasons to be considered for redness and walking funny in a child of 2 years are:
- Commonest are the insect/ants bites causing redness and swelling of the scrotum.
- Dermatitis.
- Direct or indirect trauma.
- Some sort of allergic reaction.

I would advise in such a situation the following:
cold compresses.
antihistamine and steroids orally.
Nothing to be applied locally to the scrotum.
I find this answer helpful
