What Could Pale, Black And Tissue Paper Like Stools Indicate?

Hi, First, thank you kindly for taking time out of your very busy day. My name is Debra. I am adopted, so I have little health-history. I have been very unwell most of my life. I am now a 50yr. Woman. At 18, I lost a part of my uterus. This was due to pre-cancerous cells (a-Typical). At 27, I had breast cancer. Which lead to a forced abortion. It took a year to get better. However, I made it and I am a far better person for Gods gift. However, I ve never, ever had the energy I once had before 27. I was involved in competitive pro sports. I have 4 children. 1-30, 2-27, 3-22 and 4- almost 19. I lost 3 children. 2 first trimester, 3rd at 21months. My first daughter was born with an orange sized, hairy tumour in her uterus. It actually had a tooth. Our specialist (McMasters Children Hospital) suggested this may have been a twin. Why I m writing; I m very worried about my health. I am a VERY POSITIVE PERSON! Always, mind over matter.... My biggest concern is my bowl movements. I have had pencil like extractions for about 10yrs. I averaged a movement every 5/6days. This was usually a 30minute process. I ve used loosening powders . Recently, I ve noticed 1/2 movements a day. The movements look like very pale, tan, black and loose and resembled tissue paper. I ve been to several doctors. All have had different outcomes. All have said I need to eat more. That s a challenge-4 kids with 4 boyfriends and girlfriends. All into heavy pro sports plus a wonderful husband and a family dog. Let s not forget-50hrs of financial work a week. Pls help. I m getting very scared. Lately, if I don t make it to a washroom in moments its big trouble. I m 50, but honestly feel 30ish and look late 30s. Best Regards, debra.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, the pale, black stool with tissue paper consistency may be due to underlying intestine pathology as malignancy or others.

* Previous history of uterine atypia and breast cancer makes this issue more likely than any other possibilities as inflammation or else.

* However, in my clinic, after thorough physical examination and history, I do suggest a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis on priority basis and later depending upon its results. Colonoscopy with biopsy to figure out the actual cause and management guidelines accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
