Thanks for your question on HCM.
There are many causes for nodule in lung. Broadly speaking malignant and benign causes. And chances of malignant nodule are high when age is more. And malignant nodule can occur with out any history of smoking. As old age is an independent risk factor for lung malignancy.
I advice you to first get done CT THORAX. As CT gives excellent idea about
1. Exact size of nodule.
2. Shape of nodule.
3. Surrounding lung tissue affected or not.
4. Core of the nodule calcified or necrotic.
5. Mediastinal lymphnodes enlarged or not
Etc
So each and every aspect is important in deciding next step.
She may require biopsy of the nodule for final diagnosis depending on CT appearance.
So get done CT THORAX first.
