What Could Lead To A Knuckle Crack Like Feeling In Quadriceps While Stretching And Subsequent Pain?

I was stretching my quadriceps while standing. One stretched fine. When I was stretching the next one. I brought it up into stretching position and felt like a "knuckle crack" in the middle of my quad. Now whenever I move my leg I can feel a pain/strain from the exact point it "cracked" right in the middle. Im looking for some advise on what happened and what I should do? Thanks.

Hi, welcome to Health care magic forum.
There appears to be a split of the muscle fibre. i advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms neurotropic injections for 10 consecutive days. mefenamic acid. and paracetamol.
Diclofenac local application gel may be used for relaxation of muscle fibres.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Kunal Bhalla's  Response
Hi there.

The symptoms which you have described correlate to a muscle tear in a small area of the quadriceps.
The knucle crack sound was probably due to rubbing of the knee cap against the fwmur (thigh bone).

Treatment :
1. Rest for 2 weeks atleast. Avoid stretching too. Muscle fibres take time to heal and the best healing period is immediately after tear.
2. Ice packs tothe injured area.
3. Anti inflammatory like Etoricoxib

I hhope my advice has helped
Good luck
