Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Frequent Diarrhea With Upper Respiratory Problems In A Toddler Indicate?
my two year daughter has loose stools very frequently and peadilyte has to be administered regularly , as frequent as three to five days per week. she also suffers from upper respiritory problems very frequently, we have stopped giving her milk and milk based products and soy milk but to no avail, what could be the problem.
Frequent occurrences of both respiratory and GI infections do point to something unusual. You should get her investigated for an immunological problem. One of the most common among these problems is common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), which can be easily managed with gamma-globulin infections and a few other interventions.
If her immune functions are normal, you can still try some things like greater attention to hand-washing, giving her multivitamins and a protein-rich diet, avoiding going to crowded places, avoiding a creche or a day-nursery where she is in constant touch with other, better-abled children, and so on.
