What Could Flashes Of Light In Vision Suggest?

I have been noticing round, bright, flashes of light in my left eye that comes from the outside corner and seems to rotate around the eye. The flash seems like a car headlight shown through a window and just hit the far left corner of my left eye and then seems to go around the circumfrance of the eye-ball either counter-clockwise or clockwise. However, it can't be a headlight because of the window placement. I notice it more at night while watching TV in the dark. It is in the same spot that the eye doctor said I had a cateract developing when I had an eye exam in June of 2013. The eye doctor said I could "wait a year." My vision has degraded in my left eye over the last few years. If I close my left eye and try to see with my right eye, it is much clearer for viewing far. If I close my right eye, my left eye has pretty good vision close-up, but away is very blurry. The eye doctor also noticed this. He said I didn't need glasses except for driving because of my left eye. I am retiring on disability from HHS/OCR and have been very depressed. I started lexapro in August 2013 and was recently diagnosed witrh Asperger's. It will take nearly a year for a check if I am approved, and money is tight. Any advice?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having flashes of light.
This requires evaluation by indirect ophthalmoscopy to rule out posterior segment problems like vitreous degenerations, vitreous detachment, retinal tears......
If retinal tears are present prophylactic laser treatment is important.

Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination and treatment accordingly.

Do write back to for further questions.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
