What Could Feeling Of Swollen Vein In Ankle With Cramps In Soles Indicate?

I have a vein in the inside of my right ankle that feels like it is swollen, but my ankle isn t swollen and i do not see the vein. I also get muscle craps in the bottom of my feet at night, but not every night. My doctor already checked my potassium levels and they were normal. What could be causing this deep vein pulsating / throbbing sensation?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the issue of cramps in sole with swollen vein feeling seems to be in relation with possible ligament pull or stretch from sprain via particular postural adaptation or activity. Not visible vein with only feeling is subjective one and nothing to bother much, still if more of concern can confirm with the doppler report of the lower limb blood vessels.

General guidelines for better recovery:
- Keep the leg elevated over a support of 3 pillows when resting
- Do not sit for long period in legs dependent position
- Avoid prolong driving
- Control of blood sugar

- Lcal application of heating pad
- Spray or ointment containing linseed oil, Diclofenac or Capsaicin to be applied for 3 times a day
- Regular intake of anti-inflammatory with analgesic as Diclofenac or Tramadol hydrochloride after meals

Regular follow up with your primary care provider, may decide future need of an X-ray is there or not, depending upon the recovery from the above measures.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
