Hi,
The problem of difficulty in passing stool is a common complaint, especially in early pregnancy. This is because the uterus, while growing in size, presses on other pelvic organs. Thus pressure on the bladder makes one to pass urine frequently, while pressure on the rectum causes constipation. To ease up the problem, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water. This adds fiber to the diet and helps to pass a soft stool. You may also use lactulose for sometime after your consultant's advice. Pain can be due to constipation, ovaries or enlarging uterus pulling on the ligaments. Hope this helps.
