Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Cause Persistent Muscle Weakness In The Thigh After Chondral Defect Knee Surgery?
I had microfracture surgery for a large chondral defect of the femoral condyle 14 weeks ago. Despite doing regular exercises, my thigh muscles are weak. I have now joined a Wellness Centre and have personal training sessions twice a week in an attempt to build up the quads muscle. Is this a normal length of time for recovery? Could something else be delaying the recovery/muscle build up such as nerve damage at surgery (tourniquet). I also had saphenous nerve block injection for pain relief. Anything you can tell me to allay my fears would be very much appreciated. Thank you, XXXX
Yes, it is something; we have to see whether it is a nerve or muscle problem. Muscle wasting are there? Do Nerve Conduction study and Electro Myography, then consult your doctor (Neurologist).
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
