What Could Cause Necrosis After Double Mastectomy?

I have the brac gene ,had double mastectomy with trans flap reconstruction all done at the same time 6 yrs.ago. Now have developed throbbing pain , mostly in left breast . My doctor left me looking good in a bra but a freak show, (really bad)underneath ! The word necrosis has come up from my oncologist , what is it and how would I know if I have it? What to do?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this necrosis, Necrosis simply means death tissue . The most common cause of this is compromised blood supply. if for any reasons the reconstruction could not appropriately guarantee good blood supply to the flap, this could be the most likely reason. Without much information, I cannot pinpoint the cause but your doctors should be able to address this question fully. If the necrosis is that severe, they should consider getting the necrotic tissue out to make you feel better.

I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more clarification or information if need be. I wish you well.
