What Could Cause Breathing Difficulties With Cold In Children?

My daughter has been diagnosed with Hypertrophy. She is only 1year and 4 months. She breaths mainly through her mouth. She was referred to an ENT specialist which prefers to wait on surgery - which I was scared of anyway but lately she s come down with a cold and is having such difficulty breathing & swallowing at the same time. Sleeping is also very difficult. What home relief recommendations can you offer me? Please help!

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi,
Having a hypertrophied adenoid or tonsil is normal in growing children. they usually regress when the child gets older. what is her breathing difficulty like? it it snoring or does she have cough or wheezing at night? a blocked nose can further worsen your childs symptoms. use nasal saline drops (nasoclear) ; 2 drops in each nostril. it will bring down some discomfort. give plenty of water . try honey 1 tsp at bed time.
