Yes, lack of sleep can cause slight increase in heart rate and you may also feel the heart. You may have develop tolerance to sleep medication; that is, it is not effective any more. In my opinion, you should review your medication with your doctor. Avoid drinking liquids at night. Drink plenty of liquids in the morning. Avoid tea and coffee at night. Use sugarless candy if your mouth is dry at night. Avoid sleeping in day time. Take regular exercise. Don't lie in bed for long if you are not sleepy. Sit up and listen to soft music or read. Avoid bright light in bedroom. Don't watch TV at night at least starting one hour before bedtime. Avoid playing games on mobile at night.
