What Could Be The Cause For Frequent Cramps In My Fingers And Legs, Is It Due To Potassium Pills?

My hand went into a cramp and my fingers curled and my hand curled closed. When it finally relaxed and I was able to open it I had a raised knot under my little finger and ring finger. About 2 minutes later the cramp completely released and the raised area gone. Then it hit again, this time I pulled off on the side of the road afraid I was having a stroke. Dont know why that was just the first thing that came into my mind. I have cramps in my legs and feet all the time. I take 3 potassium pills everynight before I go to bed to keep from having them.

Hello,

Consult a physician and get evaluated. Conditions like peripheral neuropathy is a possibility. Detailed evaluation is required to find out the exact cause. A nerve conduction study is also required. Electrolyte imbalances must be ruled out as it can present with similar problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
