Hello,
This is Dr. Papaqako answering your question.
Thank you for posting your query to HCM.
Wounds between toes, in the age of your father may come from several causes, and especially depending on his other chronic diseases if any. The most common ones may be from
diabetes (if he has that problem) or/and from a
fungal infection.
If I was your caring doctor, I would recommend:
-- Keep his feet as dry, cleaned, with cotton socks, and with a moisturizing cream in the areas that are starting to crack from dryness.
-- Make sure he has a diet with
proteins and a variety of dairy foods, fruits and vegetables. Give him vitamin supplements if possible. In his age he needs a very good diet for the skin to heal faster.
-- He needs visit a doctor to remove the dead skin. The green skin is sign of an infection, and if the skin is dead, it needs some help to get removed.
-- Apply wet to dry method in the areas that have the skin damaged. wet gauges, that need to change 3-4 times day, so the dead skin goes away, the wounds start granulate from the bed of the wound, and the wet environment is what it needs to heal.
-- If the wounds are itchy, and your father has a tendency to sweat, it may be a fungal infection, so once the dead skin is gone, apply a antifungal cream like
ketoconazole 2% twice/day for 2 weeks.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
