What Causes Whistling Noises In Nose When I Blow It?

Hi,

I was wanting to ask a question please.

In the last few months everytime I blow my nose I have a squeaking / whistle noise and it almost feels like a pressure change in my nose.

There is no pain associated with this and I have no other symptoms apart from I do sneeze quite frequently normally and have to blow my nose quite regularly. I do sometimes have allergies but I am not currently showing any symptoms of this.

Is there a likely cause for this as I don't really want to make an appointment, to waste my doctor's time, if it's something that was just pass on its own.

Kind regards,

Stephanie

Hello Stephanie,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. Whistling sound from nose usually suggests some partial obstruction within the nose. In your case, I would first think of allergic rhinitis as you also have sneezing and frequent need to blow nose. You have also mentioned that you have had allergies.

2. I usually suggest my such patients regular montelukast and levocetirizine for 4-6 weeks. If this does not improve symptoms, I refer them to get the nose examined by an ENT specialist.

3. I also suggest them regular steam inhalation which helps.

4. Please avoid exposure to the substances you are allergic to. Also, please avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution as much as possible.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
