Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I use a cpap and my sister told me last week that she can hear me wheezing. I find that I it takes me awhile to clear the phlegm from my lungs in the morning and I sometimes find it harder to breathe when I walk the dog. Is it the CPAP machine? I am headed to the sleep doctor as soon as I can get in this week but would like another opinion
As you are on CPAP machine it appears to me you are having COPD condition. May be you should switch to BiPAP now and do regular breathing exercises on between. And also improve the muscles of respiration. The problem you facing is bronchospasm which. Due to which the wheezing is arising. Also using CPAP is a machine for providing the continuous positive airway pressure so only it works for inspiration. Where as BiPAP works on creating the positive airway for inspiration and expiration. In other sense, this works as almost as artificial respiration. Using the Oxygen saturation machine along with this will help to keep the air humidified as both machines CPAP and BiPAP are dry oxygen. Also, you may be breathing a lot with the mouth so an active correction is a must for the nasal breathing to initiate.
Hope you will discuss the issue with the pulmonologist and also the pulmonary physiotherapist who can help you with the exercises.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
