What Causes Weight Gain And Fatigue With History Of Thyroid Mass?
i am 50. i am female. i have been feeling bad since october. no energy , tired, achy, i have a sore scratchy throat.i i have gained 60 pounds since october. I was told i had a thyroid mass of 1cmx11/2cmx .5cm. my blood work is ok. i had a nuclear dye test which showed nothing. my doctor said the mass must be a shadow and they will check it again in 6 months. i did have a 3mm goiter in the same location 6 years ago. they were unable to get enough fluid from it to test.
Weight gain and fatigue are typical symptoms of hypothyroidism. The mass in your thyroid may be goiter causing hypothyroidism. You need to go for the following investigations: 1) Ultrasound imaging of thyroid gland 2) Serum T3, T4, TSH 3) Complete blood picture
Please do consult an endocrinologist for further evaluation. You may need to take thyroid supplementation to reduce the mass size and relieve the symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
